Since the sad news that Donald Byrd had left this world, we have been listening to a lot of the trumpet legend’s musical output and have had a few cool tribute mixes come our way including this amazing two-parter from Gilles Peterson. Now, the Blue Note label (where Byrd recorded nearly all his classic recordings over an almost twenty year period) has blessed jazz and jazz-funk fans with a previously unreleased live recording of Byrd and company performing at Montreux in July of 1973. The performance is raw and vibrant and adds a new page to Byrd’s enduring legacy. Stream it over at Blue Note here.
